Academic Supports

Depending on the needs of your child, academic support can take on many forms. Academic support provided by a special education teacher can be in areas of reading, writing and/or math. Specifically, reading can focus on decoding, sight words, reading fluency and/or reading comprehension.

Writing support can focus on:

  • encoding (spelling)

  • sentence writing

  • paragraph writing and/or longer essays.

Math support can focus on:

  • math fluency

  • calculations and/or problem solving.

Academic support can also be incorporated into the services provided by the occupational therapist and/or speech and language therapist.

Academic instruction can be tailored to the needs of your child including incorporating this instruction while supporting homework assignments and projects. The service providers can collaborate with your child’s teacher with a signed release form from your child’s school.
